Amazon seller notification, pay approval fee?

Sellers who are affiliated with Amazon may understand the benefits of listing products over the giant marketplace; however, lately (August 23rd 2016) many have shown their concerns on the Seller Forums that Amazon has given them a sudden shock by restricting their items for listing, and further speculation in the same thread mentioned that branded products will need an approval before listing.

Lego sellers are assumed to be one of the concerned toy brands that are sold on Amazon.

Additionally, sellers over the forum also stated that Amazon is charging around $1000 to $5000 non-refundable per brand.

What will be the impact on sellers?

Amazon marketplace is noticed for adopting changes to improve consumer’s shopping experience across the globe.

And, considering the approval fee concern- as per an article on CNBC Erik Fairleigh, an Amazon spokesman, wrote in an e-mail, “We want customers to be able to shop with confidence on Amazon. For certain products and categories, Amazon requires additional performance checks, other qualification requirements, and fees.”

Amazon sellers dealing with branded products with low-profit margins are surely worried about the approval fee for their listings. However, at the same time, it is a step further from the online marketplace to eliminate counterfeiters and ensure sales opportunities are diverted to genuine sellers only.

What do you understand by Amazon Anti-Counterfeiting Policy?

Many online sellers would be aware how Amazon focuses on the authenticity of products sold on the marketplace.

And, the addition of approval fee on certain products and categories can eliminate counterfeiters to play their dirty tricks by selling illegal replicated, reproduced, or manufactured products over the giant marketplace.

Getting aggressive and being strict in obtaining paperwork from third-party sellers for listing branded products, Amazon can soon prove to be the most authentic platform for buying and selling products.

What will be the impact on Amazon?

This step from Amazon can be helpful to consumers for being sure about their online purchases, but, at the same time Amazon is feeling the pressure from concerned sellers who may be associated with the marketplace for quite a while.

Forcing sellers to prove they are allowed to sell branded goods, and even worst making them pay a hefty amount for approval may disappoint genuine sellers, on the flipside such sellers will not have to worry about competing with fraudsters and divert traffic to their Amazon stores.

Closing note

Sellers who counterfeit while selling on Amazon can face legal action by rights holders, hence, an approval fee for listing branded products on Amazon can ensure consumers are always offered products from qualified sellers online.
